Who publishes Lampline

Lampline is a multi-city local news publication with editions for New York, Atlanta, Chicago, and Houston. Its stories are reported from public records: contracts, invoices, inspection logs, meeting minutes, and the data behind them. Read more on the About page, and see how we report.

Using Lampline's own reporting

Readers may share Lampline's own stories and quote from them, with credit to Lampline and a link back to the story. Republishing one of our own stories in full needs our permission first. To ask, use the contact route on the Contributors page.

Quoting means a passage with credit and a link. Copying a full story, a full Paper Trail, or a full page of listings to another site is republication, and it needs permission.

Stories from other outlets

Some stories on Lampline are credited to other news outlets, including Chalkbeat, ProPublica, The Texas Tribune, KFF Health News, and The Conversation. Those stories belong to those outlets. They appear here under each outlet's published republication terms, and the credit line on each story names the outlet and links to the original. Questions about reusing one of those stories go to the outlet that published it first.

Images

Images on Lampline are public domain or licensed, and each one is credited on the page where it appears, with the source named. A credit line identifies whose work the image is. If you hold the rights to an image we have used and want the credit corrected or the image taken down, tell us through the contact route on the Contributors page and we will fix it.

Accuracy and corrections

We work to get every fact right, and we show the records behind our stories so readers can check. When we get something wrong, we fix the story, add a dated correction note at the top, and list the correction on the Corrections page. We never quietly change a fact or a date.

Tips and submissions

Readers send tips, documents, and pitches. Sending one does not create an employment or payment relationship with Lampline, and it does not guarantee publication. Contributors work under the terms described on the Contributors page. Send only material you have the right to share.

No warranty

Lampline is provided as is. Public records change, meetings are rescheduled, and numbers are revised by the agencies that publish them. We check what we print, but we do not warrant that every page is complete or current at the moment you read it. Nothing on Lampline is legal, financial, or professional advice. As far as the law allows, Lampline is not liable for losses that come from relying on a story; check the linked record before you act on it.

Changes to these terms

When these terms change, the revised version is posted on this page with a new date at the top. The date at the top of this page is the version in effect.

These terms are a plain-language summary of how Lampline works. They are not legal advice.
